At Integrity Home Pro, we get a lot of questions about roofing. We get questions about roofing costs, about roofing warranties, about roofing materials—you name it! We also get a lot of questions about scheduling—and in particular, when the best time of year is to have a new roof installed. There is a certain component to this question that is just common sense. You can probably guess that we don’t do a lot of roofing work when it is bitterly cold and icy outside. We’re not scared of a little bad weather, but roofing in the heart of snowy sleeting winter can present some safety challenges! With that said, the question remains: When is the best time of year to think about roofing? When should you, as a homeowner, schedule your roofing project to ensure that it is completed as quickly and as seamlessly as possible? Conventional wisdom holds that spring is the best time of year to roof—but is that the case?
Before we answer those questions, let us offer a few caveats. First of all: Our roofing crew works basically year-round. Roofing work slows for us a bit during the winter, but unless it is outright dangerous to be outside, we are always happy to answer your roofing calls. Whenever you need us, we can be available. Second, when you think about the timing of your roof replacement, the season is not the most important factor. Ideally, you want to do the roof replacement before it becomes direly necessary—that is, before your roof altogether fails you—but you also want to wait until you have saved enough to pay for it and have met with a roofer to develop the best plan of action.
With that said, what most homeowners really want to know is which seasons are the busiest for our roofing team. Homeowners want to be able to call and schedule their roofing work fairly promptly, without the risk of there being a wait. What we can tell you is that the busiest season for roofing tends to be in the late summer through the autumn. When it’s still sunny and reasonably warm outside, but the brutal summer and the rainy season have ended, that’s when a lot of roofers start doing big business. The roofing material suppliers know that late summer and fall are busy times for most roofers. That’s why some will raise their prices—meaning replacing your roof during this season can actually be more expensive than replacing your roof during the spring or even the winter.
So does this mean that spring really is the ideal time to replace your roof? In many ways, yes. We do watch the weather with roofing work done when it’s dry outside. That’s in the interest of protecting your home and your roofing materials. Spring, of course, is a notoriously rainy season. Nevertheless, we certainly recommend that homeowners think seriously about roofing during the spring. It’s not the only time of the year to have a roof replacement done, but it’s certainly a good one! Start planning your roof project today, and be ready to go when the weather is right!
