Many homeowners are choosing custom roman blinds for their window dressings, and with good reason – they are versatile, easy to use and relatively slim line (even when fully retracted). If you have seen all the standard design options and are looking for something a little different, however, you might be pleased to note that there are plenty of fun and funky options available. In this article, we have outlined some of our favorites for your inspiration.
If your home has some rooms that are quite long with several windows (as is particularly common in open plan living areas), you could alternate between two subtly different fabrics. This will help to create interest and dimensionality in the space. One of the most popular choices is printed and non-printed fabrics used side-by-side. This is also a great way to utilize a bold print without the finished look being too overwhelming.
By customizing the width and drop, you will have complete control over the position of the roman blinds. This is a popular choice for unusually shaped or sized windows, especially in areas where there is floor to ceiling glass (as light can be known to peek in at the bottom). Some people also use floor to ceiling panels over the top of small windows, as this can actually help the space to feel much larger than it actually is.
Whilst ready made products all come with the same control type, if you have opted for custom roman blinds you have the option to select a control that really suits your fabric and space. There is a range of options available, from block colored chains to chain-free. If you have chosen a fabric with bold black lines, for example, it will look stunning if you have selected black chains. Think about how the control feature can stand out.
Another way to customize the appearance of your roman blinds is through the addition of pelmets. Whilst these are traditionally added to curtains, they can have quite a dramatic effect when used with other window furnishings. Pelmets are also a great solution if you are worried about sunlight seeping in through the top, as they will completely cover any gaps. There are a variety of pelmet styles and designs to choose from.
Why not experiment with different and unusual fabrics to create a wholly unique look for your space? Whilst heavy fabrics, such as cotton and nylon, are commonly chosen, you could opt instead for something a little gauzier or floaty. Why not see whether your window furnishing supplier can use silk or another gorgeous material? You may not receive the light blocking benefits of heavier fabrics, but they will look stunning. You should never settle for a standard design if you don’t want to – why not opt for custom roman blinds instead? As we have shown in the above article, there is a variety of ways that these blinds can be customized to reflect your own personal style or to complement your home. By adding your own special touch, you can rest assured that your window furnishings will be a wholly unique addition to your home that will make visitors go ‘wow’!
