Everyone seems to have their own idea about what constitutes a “dream kitchen.” As a home improvement professional, I appreciate the details, materials, layout, and all of the finer things that makes a kitchen special. However, most of us probably don’t cook in our dream kitchen and must deal with that reality on a daily basis.
Your kitchen should be a place where you and your family can gather and enjoy one another as well as an organized work center for the family chef. Consider some easy upgrades, as they will go a long way in making you feel more organized and uplifted in your kitchen.
One simple upgrade is to add or change your lighting. Switching out a fixture is very easy and inexpensive. You can buy some incredible and unique fixtures on websites like Etsy.com and IKEA. Under-cabinet lighting is another idea that will add atmosphere and value but won’t break the bank.
Next, think about the inside of your cabinets. Try changing drawer or shelf liners. Laying down a fresh, non-stick liner will give you an opportunity to take everything out of your cabinets, reorganize, purge like items, and clean thoroughly.
Another great update is to change out your faucet. This is a simple and straightforward way to upgrade your kitchen and will change the look and feel of the space. Check out my other blog posting, “How to Buy a Kitchen Faucet,” that walks you through the necessary steps of updating a kitchen faucet.
Finally, update your kitchen hardware. Buying new pulls and knobs that are modern or decorative can transform the look of your cabinets, especially if they are bland or contractor grade. Simple, inexpensive changes such as these can change the look and feel of your kitchen.
