Keeping up with the Joneses (and their very cool kitchen) is a matter of staying in the loop about current design and remodeling trends. Here are some quick tips about what is hot right now.
Being earth-friendly is trend number one. Green (as in being environmentally sensitive) is in all over the house—but especially in the kitchen. Renewable, recycled, environmentally-safe, and energy-efficient products abound. Sustainable tabletops or countertops are especially prevalent and are made of materials that are safe for the environment, such as rapidly renewable bamboo—kind to the earth and stylish.
Eco-friendly appliances are also hot. Dishwashers that conserve energy and minimize drying time by adjusting the temperatures based on moisture levels are very popular. Moreover, many appliances come in sleek and stylish finishes which add considerable visual appeal to a kitchen space.
Another popular trend is to add curving shapes in the kitchen. Designers are breaking up conventional straight and boxy looks in soft new ways. Rounded kitchen sinks, curved faucets, bowed cabinetry, and curvaceous islands are changing the traditionally linear feel of kitchens and providing a pleasant departure from the expected.
Mix and match styles and materials are also a new trend people are talking about. Experimenting with exposed brick walls that mingle with modern stainless steel, or smoky glass that is slightly reminiscent of the 1970’s can bring your unique preferences ‘to the table.’ This trend adds an ambiance of intrigue and excitement into a traditional kitchen space.
