Matthew and Lisa’s Columbia, MD, home had chipped old siding and no insulation. Should they scrape, paint and repair the existing siding, or replace? Because they needed insulation to make the home more energy efficient, the best solution would be to remove the rotting and damaged wood siding, insulate with raindrop vapor barrier, and side with low-maintanence, long-lasting vinyl siding. They were pleasantly surprised to learn that vinyl siding now came with a texture that replicated the wood they were tearing off.
