Siding materials cost for a house can range from a starting point of $8,000 to over $35,000. This estimate includes the cost of the siding materials as well as installation. Other expenses you should factor in when considering your budget include the size of your home, labor charges, and any additional costs such as insulation, trim, and paint.

Various Siding Materials and Their Cost in Columbia, Maryland

There is a broad range of siding materials ideal for replacing your old siding, including vinyl, fiber cement, wood, and metal. Each of these selections has its own set of advantages and attached costs.

*When Integrity Home Pro does a siding project, we usually include all of the exterior trim (soffit, window capping, rake & fascia capping, etc.) in the project, and that is what’s included in these price ranges.

Vinyl Siding

If you’re looking for an economical, low-maintenance alternative, vinyl house siding might just be the ticket.

Its popularity among homeowners stems from its durability and versatility. Plus, with a variety of colors and styles available, it can mimic the look of other materials, providing an appealing finish to your home’s exterior.

Vinyl siding costs on a house in Columbia could range as follows:

  • Home (1500sf): $8,000 to $10,000
  • Home (2000sf): $15,000 to $25,000
  • Home (2800sf): $25,000 to $35,000

Fiber Cement Siding

Fiber cement siding is another durable, low-maintenance alternative that can stand up to harsh weather and resist rot and pests. It’s formed from a combination of cement, sand, and cellulose fibers. The most popular brand of fiber cement siding is James Hardie.

Fiber cement siding costs (2000sf, 1 side brick, 3 sides vinyl): $25,000 to $34,000.

Brick Siding

For a timeless, elegant look, brick siding is a solid choice. It’s known for its durability, low maintenance needs, and energy efficiency.

However, it does tend to be more expensive than other siding materials.

Brick siding costs (2000sf): $32,000 to $42,000.

Stone Siding

Stone siding can provide a luxurious, lasting aesthetic to your home, but it comes with a higher price tag. While natural stone is pricier than manufactured stone veneer, it’s also more durable.

Stone siding costs (2000sf, 1 side stone, 3 sides vinyl): $30,000 to $40,000.

Wood Siding

If you want a classic, natural appearance, then wood siding could be your go-to. It’s available in several styles, such as cedar shakes, board and batten, and others.

However, it does require regular maintenance, such as painting or staining, to keep its look fresh.

Wood siding typically costs (2000sf): $48,000 to $58,000.

Engineered Wood Siding

Engineered wood siding brings together the beauty of real wood and the durability of engineered materials. Designed to resist moisture, decay, and pests, it comes in various styles, including board and batten.

Engineered wood siding costs (2000sf): $25,000 to $34,000.

Stucco Siding

Stucco is a versatile, long-lasting siding material that’s made from cement, sand, and lime. It’s well-suited for various architectural styles, and its smooth or textured finish offers excellent resistance to weathering and pests.

Stucco siding costs (2000sf): $32,000 to $42,000.

Aluminum Siding

Aluminum siding is lightweight, low-maintenance, and rust, rot, and pest-resistant. It’s a great option for homeowners seeking a cost-effective metal siding solution.

However, be aware that aluminum can dent easily and fade over time.

Aluminum siding costs (2000sf): $28,000 to $38,000.

Steel Siding

Steel siding is a recyclable, long-lasting material that offers exceptional resistance to harsh weather conditions, fire, and pests. Its durability, low maintenance needs, and energy efficiency make it an appealing choice for homeowners.

Steel siding costs (2000sf): $28,000 to $38,000.

When choosing your new siding, it’s essential to check if your local area requires permits for specific types of siding. Always check your local building codes and consult with a siding contractor before making your decision.

Siding Materials Cost Factors

Several elements come into play when calculating your home’s siding cost. In this section, we’ll explore the factors that affect the overall cost of siding materials and installation:

Size Of Home

One of the most considerable factors that impact the cost of siding materials and installation is the size of your home.

Larger homes naturally require more materials to cover the exterior surface area, which directly influences the material cost. Also, the installation on a larger home will take more time and labor, resulting in higher labor costs.

To get an estimate of the potential siding cost, a contractor will often measure the total square footage of your home’s exterior.

Type Of Siding Material

Material costs are another crucial factor.

There’s a wide extent of siding materials purchasable on the market—vinyl, wood, aluminum, fiber cement, brick, natural stone, stone veneer, brick veneer, and others. Each comes with its own cost, aesthetic appeal, and durability.

Certain materials, like brick or natural stone siding, are typically more expensive due to their longevity and premium appearance.

Simultaneously, other materials designed to mimic more expensive ones might cost more than standard versions but less than the genuine materials they mimic.

Geographic Location

Your home’s geographic location significantly affects the cost of both siding materials and their installation.

Regional labor costs can vary widely—installers in areas with higher costs of living often charge more than those in areas where the cost of living is lower.

Availability of certain materials may also impact cost, with scarce or regionally produced materials often costing more.

Local regulations, building codes, and permit costs may further contribute to varying costs across different regions.

Additionally, the specific location of your home—whether urban or rural—can influence costs due to the logistical considerations of transporting materials and crew commutes.

Installation Complexity

The complexity of siding installation can significantly impact the final cost.

If your home has unique architectural features like multiple stories, intricate trim work, irregular shapes, etc., the installation will likely be more complex. This can involve more time, labor, and sometimes specialized skills or equipment.

Vertical siding is also tougher to install in contrast to horizontal.

Consequently, professional installers may charge higher fees to compensate for these complexities.

Labor Costs

Labor costs are a substantial part of any siding installation project.

These costs can vary depending on the type of siding material, the complexity of the installation, and local labor rates.

For example, installing stone veneer or brick veneer may cost more when it comes to labor than vinyl siding installation due to the skill and time required.

Who You Hire

The contractor you hire can also significantly impact the overall cost of your siding project.

Reputable siding contractors may charge more, but their experience and expertise often result in a smoother process and higher-quality work.

Opting for a cheaper contractor or a DIY approach may save money upfront but can lead to costly mistakes and subpar work that needs correction or replacement sooner.

In the construction industry, as in many others, the cost often implies what the result will be.

Maintenance Costs

Lastly, consider the long-term maintenance costs associated with the type of siding you choose.

Some materials, like vinyl siding or fiber cement siding, are attractive for their low maintenance needs.

However, materials like wood siding require regular painting or staining and might need repairs due to siding issues like rot or pests.

Brick and natural stone siding, while robust and long-lasting, may need occasional repointing—a process of renewing the external part of mortar joints.

Over time, these maintenance costs can add up, so they’re essential to factor into your decision-making process.

The Lifespan Of Different Siding Materials

The lifespan of your chosen siding material will have an impact on your long-term maintenance costs.

  • Vinyl siding can last up to 60 years
  • Fiber cement typically lasts about 50 years
  • Wood siding can last up to 100 years
  • Brick and stone sidings can last over 100 years

The Energy Efficiency Of Siding Materials

Some siding materials provide better insulation than others, leading to potential savings on your utility bills.

Insulated vinyl siding, fiber cement siding, and brick siding can all help keep your home warmer in winter and cooler in summer.

Eco-Friendly Siding Options

If you’re concerned about the environment, consider siding materials like fiber cement or wood, both biodegradable and sourced sustainably.

Steel siding is another eco-friendly choice because it’s both recyclable and durable.

Financing Your Siding Project

If the upfront cost of your preferred siding material is a concern, remember that many contractors offer payment plans or financing options. These strategies can make the cost of even more expensive siding options manageable over time.

Siding Warranties

Most siding materials come with a manufacturer’s warranty, providing additional peace of mind. Contractors can also offer warranties on their work (we offer warranties and guarantees on siding projects).

These warranties typically cover defects in the material, but they might also include labor costs for replacement.

Be sure to understand what is and isn’t covered before making your final decision.

Recently we hired Integrity Pro to design and complete a combination bathroom and Laundry room in our basement. We knew for quite sometime this would be a big time consuming job. We actually interview at least 6 other construction companies. We found out that a lot of plumbers were not interested in the construction aspects of this type of work. We found out that anyone offering to do this for 7-8 thousand dollars was not trustworthy.More than once we were ready to pull the trigger only to walk back from the ledge for different reasons. The first thing that stood out on the Integrity estimate was that big fat liability policy that was part of the estimate proposal. As a retired Casualty Insurance Professional this was definitely a determining factor. The other was the fixture allowance. But it did take 2-3 conversations to lead to the big hand shake. Then the next “feel good” factor was Alberto the lead carpenter. He came in on a Saturday after the plumber because he needed to get a jump on things. He worked every Saturday until finished. We saw Mike the Project Manager like 4 times. Very reassuring. The door to the laundry room needed some creative thinking. Once again great results. For us this was a once in a life time project, we had much to loose if done incorrectly, but much to gain when done right. That is where we are, on the plus side. Well done.Anthony Bynum

This company is very responsive. Not only did Danny (owner) listen to our concerns, but he heard our concerns. Many days, I was leaving as the workers arrived. Danny would leave post it notes to ensure the contractors addressed any concerns from the day before. The contractors are very respectful of our home. They cleaned up every afternoon so as not to leave our house in disarray. My fireplace turned out beautifully. My bathroom doors were moved and the new locking barn darns turned out beautifully. Danny is having a custom threshold designed to make the transition between too rooms seamless. Danny took a load barring wall down to open up the kitchen and the back room. Danny ensured the openings to these rooms were at least 36 inches. Ensuring the house is ADA accessible was very important to me.

Our project coordinator on site was Alberto. He was so fastidious, and was so committed to making the job look fantastic at the end. He even came back after he realized he forgot to put some thing on our final cabinet installation even thought he was in his truck, on his way out. He was just so excellent and we can’t have asked for a better project result.

My wife and I reached out to Integrity Home Pro for a quote to repair/replace wood under our bay windows that started rotting years ago. Within a few days, we had an estimate with several different options, and reasonable price set for the work done, as well as an estimate for how long the work would take.Within 3 weeks, Integrity Home Pro sent out their team to replace our rotted wood with panels and had finished the work within the time originally estimated. We're so happy with the work they've done, that we will certainly be reaching out again for more work on our home.Long and short: Integrity Home Pro has shown us professional courtesy, impressive workmanship, and genuine care for our needs. The quality of service is a rarity, and we plan on reaching out to Integrity again in the near future.Photos provided to show the before and after

Integrity Home Pro was a pleasure to work with. I had extensive hail damage to my house and the process of getting information to my insurance and approval for a full replacement was a long process. Ben at Integrity was very patient and extremely helpful every step of the way. He assisted with everything the insurance needed so that now I have a new roof and siding. The installers were outstanding and when they were finished you could not see any debris on the lawn or damage to any bushes. I used Integrity about 10 years ago for the previous roof that the hail damaged ( I thought they were terrific then) and I think they only have improved with time. I highly recommend them!

Integrity Home-Pro just completed remolding our kitchen. The process took two weeks. Elmer Lopez did the work. He worked non-stop everyday; his workmanship is premium. Tera Ingwersen guided us through the process from the office on a regular basis and was always available to answer questions. Integrity's quote for the work was significantly less than a quote given by another company. Integrity's owner, Danny Peterson, personally came when we called about getting a quote. He followed up on two occasions as the work was being done. Integrity Home Pro has done other major projects on our home and we have been pleased each time.
